Candidate Specification

* Successful candidates will be qualified with a Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Electrical Engineering
* Experience leading relay protection detailed design projects for EV and EHV electrical substations
* Able to develop protection philosophies from IEEE standards, utility standards, and other industry standards
* Proficiency with engineering, design and QA/QC of the relay detailed design scope including: schematics/elementaries; three-lines; one-lines; wiring diagrams; control enclosure layout; panel fronts; station AC and DC loading calculations/design; Conduit & Cable schedules; etc.
* Experience with developing equipment specifications
* Proficiency with conducting relay protection calculations and creating calculation reports - Desired but not required
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills
* Engineering/technical expertise and in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
* Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
* Ability to work well with a team of engineers, mentoring and training other engineers
* Thorough and accurate technical reports, records, correspondence, documentation, calculations
* Continuous improvement of job-related engineering technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance
* Supports company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
* Good verbal and written communication skills

Job Description

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Substation relay engineer to lead the team in Austin, TX.

Provide engineering/technical expertise to solve complex problems, and provide leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with increased latitude for un-reviewed work. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently.

Some if the responsibilities will include:

* Coach and mentor other Engineering professionals
* Review work of subordinate Engineering professionals
* Engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems
* Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
* Thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
* Continuous improvement of job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
* Effective oral and written communication skills
* Accurate record keeping
